INTEGRATING THE WYZZ EDITOR INTO ZEN CART
Why would you want to integrate the Wyzz editor into Zen Cart?
The popular open-source Zen Cart eCommerce package comes as standard with plain-text editing of product descriptions, but with the HTMLArea WYSIWYG editor included in the download and available for selection via the admin area (Configuration > My Store > HTML Editor). There is also a good deal of information about integrating the TinyMCE and FCKEditor (now CKEditor) into Zen Cart. So why integrate Wyzz?
Unfortunately the HTMLArea WYSIWYG editor is getting a little aged now. The version shipped with Zen Cart 1.3.8 includes a changelog document with no entries after 2004, and the javascript file header refers to Zen Cart modifications in 2006. When I switched on the editor in a vanilla Zen Cart 1.3.8 installation, it threw a warning about browser compatibility (I was using Google Chrome).
TinyMCE and CKEditor are, without doubt, impressive and extremely capable editors. However they are correspondingly large. For many users who simply want to offer some limited product editing for their store owners, these editors are hugely over-specified.
Wyzz, on the other hand, is light, configures easily into Zen Cart, and is extremely easy to configure with just the required wysiwyg editing tools. Here's how to install Wyzz on a vanilla Zen Cart 1.3.8 store (this uses a special version of Wyzz, 0.65ZC, included in the download).
